What initially seemed like a week set for negotiations—driven by the momentum of a presidential statement signed by U.S. President Joe Biden, Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, which suggested that an agreement was in place, only needing an implementation plan with negotiations set for Thursday—now appears to be a week of anticipated retaliation from Iran and Hezbollah. According to leaks reported by CNN and Maariv, citing multiple Israeli intelligence sources, Hezbollah’s response is expected today, with Iran likely to follow within hours. While Hezbollah, Iran, and other resistance forces have not revealed any indications of the exact timing, Hezbollah’s military media has released footage underscoring the precision, strength, and inevitability of their response. Meanwhile, Iranian television channels have incited the slogan revenge is coming for Ismail Haniyeh’s blood.

As anticipation builds for Thursday’s negotiations, along with the possibility of retaliatory strikes before or after, questions are mounting about whether the talks will proceed. These doubts stem from Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that his delegation will negotiate the framework and terms of the agreement- not just the implementation plan. Meanwhile, the violence persists, with a single airstrike two days ago claiming 100 lives at a Gaza school sheltering thousands of displaced people.

In response to the invitation for negotiations, Netanyahu’s comments, and the ongoing massacres, Hamas has insisted that mediators focus on implementing the agreement the movement had already accepted on 2nd of July. This plan, which is central to President Joe Biden’s initiative and clearly supported by a U.N. Security Council resolution, should be the starting point. Hamas has called on the mediators to first secure Netanyahu’s commitment to the agreement before discussing its implementation, to ensure the negotiations do not merely serve as a cover for the continued massacres being perpetrated by the occupation forces against the Palestinian people.

On the ground, operations in Gaza and from the southern front of Lebanon persist, while the West Bank witnesses targeted attacks against the occupying entity’s soldiers. A statement from senior field officers who have been on the frontlines in Gaza has cast doubt on claims by the Chief of Staff and the Prime Minister of the occupying entity about an imminent victory. These officers, drawing from their battlefield experience, assert that the notion of a near victory is disconnected from reality. They report that Hamas has increased its capabilities, including more fighters, advanced weaponry, cross-border capabilities, diverse drones, and additional strategic tunnels.
