Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, decisively overcame the challenge of her first debate against former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, with a resounding success, according to widespread commentary. Even Republican officials expressed dissatisfaction with Trump’s performance, rejecting his claims of victory and acknowledging Harris’ superior showing. Democratic leaders and voters celebrated Harris’ win, though the debate’s influence on undecided voters, especially in swing states, remains uncertain. However, Harris’ lead has become widely accepted.

A CNN poll of registered voters who watched the debate and had pre-consented to provide feedback showed 63% supporting Harris, compared to 37% for Trump.

In the region, Jordan’s parliamentary elections turned into a major event after the government insisted on holding them, aiming to address public anger in solidarity with Palestine, the resistance, and Gaza. The Islamic Action Front, the political twin of Hamas, secured 31 out of 138 seats, about a quarter of the new parliament. The party also won 17 seats through party representation, nearly half of the available seats. In contrast, the pro-government Mithaq Party secured only three seats. This political shift reflects the government’s recognition of the need to avoid confrontation with the outraged public, particularly following the Karama operation led by martyr Maher al-Jazi, which continues to fuel widespread popular celebrations. This opening comes as Jordanians increasingly feel threatened by Israeli policies and the U.S.’s inability to curb them, especially concerning Gaza’s future and the potential displacement of West Bank residents into Jordan as an alternative homeland.

Some observers see this shift as a response to a possible U.S. withdrawal from Syria and Iraq, while others view it as Jordan’s adaptation to a prolonged conflict in Gaza and the diminishing chances of negotiated agreements.

On the Lebanese front, the scale and intensity of resistance operations, particularly the focused targeting of the Galilee region, have been striking.

Sources suggest these actions are more than just a response to Israeli airstrikes and civilian attacks, hinting at a reaction to leaked information from Israel about serious consideration of launching a war on Lebanon.
