The U.S. presidential race has entered a new phase as President Joe Biden announces his withdrawal and steps down from the race. According to American sources, Biden’s withdrawal followed a deal he struck with Democratic Party leaders, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, as well as former President Bill Clinton and his wife former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The essence of the deal is Biden’s withdrawal in exchange for the Democratic Party’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris – a move that began to take shape with Biden’s announcement of his withdrawal and his support for Harris’s candidacy.

Biden’s withdrawal and Harris’s nomination have changed the dynamics of the presidential race. Former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric against Biden focused on Biden’s advanced age. Now, with the shift from Biden to Harris, Trump is the older candidate. Trump’s rhetoric is more effective when mocking Biden’s mental capabilities, but it’s harder for Trump to find flaws in Harris’s record and conduct, given her background as a former attorney. Harris is likely to adeptly highlight Trump’s weaknesses, especially his criminal record in court, and expose his unethical history and sexist views. She can also leverage Trump’s shortcomings in political and economic debates. This reshuffling is evident in the polls, where the Democrats’ chances of serious competition, and perhaps surpassing Trump, have emerged, particularly if Harris teams up with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as her running mate for Vice President.

In the surrounding region, a wave of escalation followed a triple aerial assault on Yemen, carried out in turn by Israeli, American, and British aircrafts. This followed Yemen’s striking blow to Israeli arrogance—a drone that reached Tel Aviv and exploded, killing an Israeli engineering corps settler and injuring ten others. Israel’s prestige, shattered by Yemen’s calculated and precise strike, has not been restored despite the extent of brutality that Netanyahu described as the response. The burning of oil tanks, the destruction of a power plant, and the resulting casualties among workers do little to repair Israel’s severely damaged deterrence capability. Yemen vowed a harsh response and continued support for Gaza, according to Ansar Allah leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi. In the meantime, resistance forces have affirmed their readiness for any scenario and their steadfast support for Yemen. Sources monitoring the ongoing confrontation suggest that Iraq will support Yemen in a manner similar to Yemen’s support for Gaza.
