Benjamin Netanyahu, through his crossing of red lines which are defined by the deterrence equations set for avoiding a major war, has revealed his inability to endure the protracted war of attrition that the resistance has conducted over ten months.
This war of attrition effectively thwarted the occupation entity and its army’s open warfare on Gaza, which involved extensive killing, destruction, and attempts to subdue the resistance. Despite these efforts, the resistance not only endured but grew stronger and more effective, and the attempts to tightly control Gaza failed. Meanwhile, the Lebanese front succeeded in creating a strategic issue, exemplified by the displacement of settlers from the northern settlements and the failure the occupation army to protect them, thereby challenging their claims about military superiority. The Yemeni front, in collaboration with the Iraqi resistance, has stated that blocking ships bound for the occupation entity’s ports imposes a strong presence, potentially leading to the closure of Eilat (Umm al-Rashrash). Moreover, the American-British forces and Israeli airstrikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Hodeidah are insufficient to open maritime routes for these ships, which are vital to the occupation entity’s economy.

Netanyahu risked escalating the confrontation to a new stage. He ordered the killing of a resistance leader in the southern suburb of Beirut, targeting a residential building and resulting in the deaths of several civilians. Additionally, he had the political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, killed while he was a guest in the Islamic Republic of Iran there to attend the constitutional event of inaugurating the elected president.

Iran held a grand funeral procession attended by millions for the martyr Ismail Haniyeh. Iranian leaders, led by Supreme Leader Imam Ali Khamenei, took part in this event, and their cross-sectarian unity struck a significant blow to all divisive schemes. The Iranian leadership affirmed their duty to avenge Haniyeh’s death, stating that their honour, dignity, and sovereignty have been violated. They promised a response that would be severe and painful for the occupation entity.

In Beirut, during the funeral of the prominent resistance leader Fouad Shukr, Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah announced the transition beyond the stage of mere support fronts to the stage of large-scale open warfare with all conceivable scenarios. He declared that the situation is significant and transformative as it alters the current equations. He added that those who have crossed red lines need to understand the extent of their transgressions; those who rejoiced and laughed should prepare for the inevitable response from the resistance, which will be substantial and not symbolic, as some intermediaries have suggested. He also noted that the response may come collectively from the Axis of Resistance or in separate actions; the field will decide.

Sayyed Nasrallah concluded by stating, “The resistance in Palestine will not surrender, and this is Hamas’s stance following the martyrdom of leader Haniyeh. There will be no surrender on any front of the resistance. Those who wish to prevent worse and greater calamities must compel ‘Israel’ to halt its aggression against Gaza. Even if you kill, destroy, and push to the furthest extremes without regard for our response, the only solution will be to stop the aggression against Gaza.”

He added, “The Lebanese support front will return to its previous operations from tomorrow morning, which are not related to the response to the martyrdom of Mr. Fouad. However, our response to the aggression against the southern suburbs and the martyrdom of Mr. Mohsen and the civilians is definitive. The enemy and its backers should expect our response, which is inevitable, God willing. There is no discussion or debate about this. What lies between us are days, nights, and the battlefield.”
