The first U.S. presidential debate between Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump, and Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, may well be their last. At dawn, undecided voters in battleground states will have the opportunity to assess each candidate’s strengths and weaknesses, particularly how their proposals align with voters’ expectations. According to election campaign analysts, the race remains tight, making the debate a focal point of attention. This is especially true for Arab and Muslim communities, as well as activists supporting the Palestinian cause and those opposing the U.S.’s unconditional support for the occupying entity and its crimes in Gaza. They are keen to see how Harris will frame her positions amidst growing pressure, especially in critical states where she risks losing significant votes unless she opens a channel for dialogue during the debate that signals a shift in stance. So far, both Harris and Trump seem locked in a race to demonstrate unwavering support for the occupying entity, overlooking the crimes committed using American weaponry.

In Gaza, a new crime claimed dozens of lives, with U.S.-supplied weapons from a recently approved shipment. Among the deadliest were massive concussion bombs dropped on tents housing displaced families, burying them in the sands of Khan Younis as they slept at dawn. Meanwhile, the White House continues to blame Hamas for stalling negotiations, despite the clear reality that the occupying entity’s Prime Minister insists on new conditions, which his Defense Minister publicly admits are the reason for the failed peace talks. In a new development, Washington announced it would delay presenting its latest proposal, aimed at what it calls “bridging the negotiation gaps.” Sources say the delay stems from the Biden administration’s reluctance to confront Netanyahu’s demands, which would effectively end the negotiation process, though opposing these demands would risk a clash with Netanyahu – something Biden’s administration wouldn’t even consider.

On a parallel front, the request by the International Criminal Court’s Prosecutor for arrest warrants against the occupying entity’s Prime Minister and Defense Minister has resurfaced. Legal sources have linked the renewed urgency to the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session, where Netanyahu is scheduled to attend in New York. Reports suggest that ICC judges have engaged in extended legal discussions after receiving communications from Britain and Germany, claiming that the events in Palestine fall outside the court’s jurisdiction. However, the ICC had previously ruled in 2021 that it holds full jurisdiction over Palestinian territories. Legal experts believe the court’s decision may soon be announced, drawing global attention, particularly from dozens of human rights organizations and leading international jurists, as this case is seen as pivotal in enforcing international law that has long been sidelined amidst some of the worst atrocities in recent history.
