Late last night, the White House stated that Washington still hopes to reach a diplomatic solution between “Israel” and Lebanon. It disagrees with Israel’s view that the current escalation with Lebanon will lead to the return of displaced people from northern occupied Palestine, emphasising its efforts to broker a deal in Gaza and its belief that such an agreement is the path to repatriating the displaced.
The White House’s remarks followed an atmosphere of heightened tensions resulting from a dual Israeli airstrike on two residential buildings in the Jammous neighbourhood of Beirut’s southern suburb, which claimed the lives of 14 people, including several field commanders of the resistance. Leading the fallen was senior jihadist commander Ibrahim Aqil, described in Hezbollah’s statement of mourning as a lover of Palestine and Al-Aqsa.
After yesterday’s painful blow to the resistance, all eyes are on it, awaiting a response that will restore the balance of power. What has transpired along the border in recent days, however, has already demonstrated that the resistance is strong, resourceful, and prepared to face challenges, proving its ability to overcome shocks and crises.
Amid the escalating confrontation between the resistance and the occupation, the office of Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei announced that Iran’s response to the assassination of martyr commander Ismail Haniyeh will come soon. Meanwhile, Washington has decided to redirect one of its aircraft carriers and its accompanying military vessels to the region. Observers have linked Iran’s upcoming retaliation with the Israeli strikes against Hezbollah, as well as the U.S. decision to reposition its carriers toward the region.
