No one in Beirut believes the American rhetoric about preventing escalation, especially after Washington backtracked on its advice to Tel Aviv to pursue a deal in Gaza that would end the war, facilitate a prisoner exchange, and pave the way for the return of the displaced while halting fire on the Lebanese front. Instead, Washington declared its willingness to broker negotiations aimed solely at securing a ceasefire and the return of the displaced in Lebanon, excluding Gaza – an outcome that aligns with the ambitions of the occupation’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
In Lebanon, hearts are broken, and there is an overwhelming sense of disbelief as the numbers of martyrs and injured rise with each update from the Ministry of Health. By midnight last night, the toll had reached around 500 martyrs and 1,700 injured. Thousands of displaced people from villages bombarded with heavy missiles are streaming into the capital and other Lebanese regions. Schools have opened to accommodate them, and locals are offering their homes to shelter the displaced.
Despite the devastation -the razing of homes and the loss of loved ones – the words of the displaced bring a sense of solace. They remain steadfast in their support for the resistance, assured of their dignified return under the banner of victory, and embrace the sacrifices with unwavering resolve, mirroring the resilience of those wounded in the Pager and Radio bombings.
In a calm and measured analysis, the resistance, with nerves of steel and a cool-headed approach, is navigating the unfolding events. Just as it frustrated the occupation’s attempts to deliver a knockout blow, as per the American design in previous operations, it has now charted a path targeting the strategic depth of Haifa in the north. This aims to cripple the military capabilities of the occupiers on one hand and, on the other, to double the number of displaced. It has become clear that the goal of these massacres is to force displacement, creating pressure within Lebanon that would pave the way for the American initiative to broker a deal for a ceasefire and the return of the displaced in Lebanon – while leaving Gaza to face its fate alone. This would set the stage for imposing conditions on Gaza later.
However, the resistance remains confident that after its failures, the occupation will face limited options. It can either expand the fire, targeting Beirut and its suburbs-adhering to the resistance’s equation of Beirut for Tel Aviv, with the southern suburbs considered part of Beirut – or it can risk a ground invasion, pressured by settlers demanding a campaign to avoid further strikes on their territory. Resistance fighters are eagerly awaiting such an invasion. Alternatively, the occupation could yield to the resistance’s equation – abandoned by Washington – and agree to a deal in Gaza that would end the war, halt fire on the Lebanese front, and facilitate the return of the displaced.
The Syrian Social Nationalist Party described the ongoing events as a war of extermination, aimed at imposing the occupation’s conditions. They reaffirmed that the resistance will neither retreat nor weaken and that it is on an unwavering path to victory.
