Media outlets, all the sudden, were flooded with a wave of optimism over an imminent ceasefire on the Lebanon front, initially sparked by reports from the occupying entity’s media. This sentiment gained further traction and credibility when Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, after receiving a call from U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein, hinted at a potential ceasefire announcement within hours. However, the White House soon issued statements to temper these expectations, while detailed reports from the occupying entity began to reveal the reality behind Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements. Netanyahu expressed willingness to cease hostilities in both Lebanon and Gaza – not only Lebanon – under a set of conditions prioritising Israeli security. Among these conditions were proposals to hollow out Resolution 1701 by waiving any requirement for the occupying army to cease airspace and maritime violations, instead to legitimise its presence on occupied Lebanese lands, and to grant the occupying army authority to verify the Lebanese Army’s efforts to disarm the resistance south of the Litani River, with the occupying army allowed to intervene if it deems that there is negligence by the Lebanese army in carrying out this mission.
In Gaza, specific drafts have yet to surface, but expectations are low for any positive indicators comparable to the Lebanese draft. Thus, CIA Director William Burns has chosen to withhold his proposals, preferring not to reveal them until preliminary approvals are secured. Meanwhile, U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein and presidential adviser Brett McGurk have begun drafting a ceasefire proposal for Lebanon, which they aim to finalise before arriving in Tel Aviv and later heading to Beirut.
Meanwhile, the resistance has continued to repel occupying forces along the Khiyam front, where fierce battles have resulted in significant losses for the occupiers in both troops and tanks.
Hezbollah Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem appeared to elaborate on various positions held by the party and the resistance, affirming their commitment to the path and strategy set by Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. He urged confidence in the resistance’s capabilities and its assured path to victory, pledging to thwart the occupation’s schemes and its war efforts. He declared “We have named this battle the ‘Battle of those endowed with might’,and “we will prevail in it”.
