Countdown Begins for Netanyahu’s Rule Amid Investigations and Escalating Military Pressure

Two major developments have intensified speculation over the future of the occupying entity’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. The first is the legal authorization from the government’s legal advisor to investigate Netanyahu himself. According to Maariv, Legal Advisor Gali Baharav-Miara has approved an inquiry related to the ‘leak scandal’ within Netanyahu’s office. This greenlight allows officials to pursue a direct investigation into Netanyahu over two ongoing cases: alleged leaks of confidential documents and suspected protocol tampering since the war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023. Maariv reported that neither the legal advisor, the Shin Bet, nor the police have issued official statements on the matter.

The second development is a provocative article by Haaretz, an American-aligned opposition paper in the occupying entity, suggesting that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump may be planning to remove Netanyahu from power – contrary to Netanyahu’s hopes. In the op-ed, columnist Eran Yashiv argues that Trump sees Netanyahu as a high-maintenance leader who requires constant support. Yashiv, an economics lecturer, contends that Trump, driven by economic priorities, views Netanyahu as an unnecessary liability, given that “Israel” received nearly $18 billion in U.S. military aid over the past year. Trump, who has criticised foreign entanglements from Ukraine to Israel, seems poised to avoid backing sustained Middle Eastern conflicts. Yashiv questions Trump’s commitment to Netanyahu, concluding that Trump likely harbours resentment towards the Israeli leader over his ties with President Joe Biden.

Amid internal strife within the entity and Netanyahu’s ongoing efforts to prolong the war – despite growing domestic unease since the dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant – events in Amsterdam have sparked additional backlash. Violent clashes involving Israeli fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv team and local crowds left several injured and missing. The bloodshed has fueled frustration and fear within the occupying society, with Hebrew news channels highlighting growing risks in European capitals, where angry Arab and Muslim communities, alongside unenthusiastic European observers, show little interest in supporting the entity’s actions. Consequently, the government has now banned its soldiers from travelling to the Netherlands.

On the military front, resistance forces continue to strike deep into the occupying entity, reaching Tel Aviv’s suburbs and the vicinity of Ben Gurion Airport. These missile and drone attacks have forced millions of settlers into shelters, creating an unsettling routine for them. Meanwhile, fierce clashes have resumed along the border villages, with resistance fighters engaging occupation forces on the outskirts of Marun, Adaisseh, and Kafr Kila, and shelling rear positions in border settlements like Kiryat Shmona.
