Amid much speculation around diplomatic exchanges led by U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein and supposed upcoming visits to Beirut to relay U.S.-Israeli negotiation outcomes, the only real developments came from the battlefield, with no substantial political shifts according to sources closely monitoring these negotiations.
On the ground, the second phase of the occupying army’s ground operation, planned for yesterday, stalled following a catastrophic ambush. An elite unit of dozens of soldiers and officers from the occupying force fell into a carefully orchestrated trap by the resistance within a cluster of residential buildings. After an intense bombardment by the occupying air force, this unit entered the structures, only to be met by resistance fighters lying in wait both inside and outside. The resistance attacked from all directions, killing and injuring the majority of the soldiers. When evacuation and support units attempted rescue, they too were hit, resulting in further casualties. While the occupying force acknowledged nine deaths, military sources suggest the toll is likely higher, given the ambush involved intersecting medium and small arms fire, anti-armor explosives, and pre-set explosive devices triggered as soldiers entered the kill zone.
In response to this attempted escalation, the resistance initiated a new phase of its campaign, focusing on Tel Aviv. Rockets and drones, including newly deployed models, pierced the air defenses surrounding the occupying entity’s capital. The most significant strikes targeted the Ministry of Defense and the Chief of Staff’s secret bunker within the fortified ‘Kirya’ base – hit twice in succession.
Politically, isolation measures against the occupying entity reached new heights as Turkey and the European Union joined the movement, albeit with limited and delayed actions. Turkish President Erdogan announced a suspension of trade with the entity, while EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell declared that the EU is moving to suspend political dialogue with the occupying entity, citing failure to meet the EU’s partnership standards in light of the atrocities committed in Gaza and Lebanon.
